What a wonderful story. I suppose it would be the age of men when it would happen. Elves would value the quality and zen of the work itself, and never invent a way to automate the making of books. They would rather wait their turn to read it, having all the time in the world.

The printing press is the most important technology ever devised, unless it is the computer/internet, but we are too close to our revolution to judge the two rightly. Both are of the same nature and effect. The machine that changed the world has to be the title, or concept of at least one book about the press. Well, it should be, at any rate.

Evil ever spreads the lie that evil and good are of equal worth, a matter of opinion. I loved that part.

'"I fear," said the King of Gondor and Arnor, "that the Worshipful Order of Scriveners will not be pleased."'

The King has a firm grasp of real world politics.

A wine press converted to printing! I can see how the watchers thought they'd seen a spell being wrought. A nice little story.

This is an interesting perspective and nicely developed. Fun idea also!
