Very funny! You need to put a beverage warning on the summary though!

Mothers are an endangered species in LOTR, though...probably because JRRT lost his when he was 12...

I read this, howled laughing, and only just now realized that you are the same person who wrote "Object Lessons"! Talk about versatility!

I think the best review I can give you is to let you know the parts that had me in tears (laughing that is).

"Eowyn: (turning the page) And this is my father, Eomund, and my mother, Theodwyn, and my aunt Elfhild, and my cousin Theodred. And this is my gerbil, Mister Sparklepants. (pause.) I was five when I got him.
Arwen: I see.
Eowyn: Anyway, dead, dead, dead, dead, and dead."

I guess you could say I have a dark sense of humor...And for some odd reason I also found the image of Eowyn holding Legolas in a headlock hilarious. Don't ask me why.

I think my laughter hit a crescendo at this:

"Eowyn: (puts her face in her hands) This is even more embarrassing than the time you filled Snowmane’s trough with ale. (Merry and Pippin, hearing this, proceed to stare at Eomer with expressions of unalloyed awe and admiration)"

Thanks for posting this. I really enjoyed it.

I have to admit that I never noticed the lack of living mothers in LOTR until reading your story! Then I realised that your mother was right. All of the mothers die young or sail into the West. Of course Galadriel was a mother, although I reckon Celebrian was as a result of an immaculate conception. Anyway...enough of this rambling. I enjoyed your piece greatly, definitely different, but nicely so!

By the way, did you hear the one about the three Elves in a bar.........?

Oh dear, that's hilarious! Middle-earth mother's are indeed an endangered species but I'm glad you let Lothiriel keep hers.
