Estel led his mother to the open kist in the corner of his room. “I found her in here,” he explained. “I think it’s time for the kittens to be born.” Gilraen peered down into the depths of the chest. Two wary green eyes peered up at her. She could hear soft questing sounds. “I suspect, my son, that they are already here,” she said quietly, gently rolling Imogen onto her side. “Look!” “Oh!” Estel’s voice was filled with wonder. “Six! She had six kittens! How small they are!” Six tiny forms pressed against their mother’s flanks, seeking a meal. |
