(John Donne) Her mother was long dead by the time Ancalimë took the Sceptre. A pity, since her accession would have validated her choice to marry and have a son in the eyes of Erendis the Proud. As the years wore on, Ancalimë turned to the box that held her mother's elestirnë* more and more often, and that feeling of anger that had masked her wish for approval slowly changed into hatred.
