“Sorry Boromir.” The little one says that a lot – always apologizing for his awkwardness, his inexperience, the fallibility of youth. Not yet an adult – even among his own kind – he lacks the nobility of the ring-bearer, the stability of the gardener, even the sensibility of his cousin. He’s a clumsy puppy, eager to please and broken hearted in disappointment. Seeking approval, he finds impatience or misunderstanding. He blunders on when a gentle explanation would stay his recklessness. He’s a boy playing at a man’s quest but children learn best by example. “Here Pippin, let me show you how it’s done…” |
