Author’s notes: These three stories were not written together, but have become one longer story in my heart. Breathe: was written for the 2003 “Quickies” challenge at Henneth Annun to show Boromir and Faramir as kids and swimming lessons. I took the word “lessons” in a larger sense. Every Breath: I didn't want to disturb the symmetry of ‘Breathe’ as a vignette – I liked the moment of strength and the completed feel of the words. But I could not think of the brothers meeting in the Anduin without also thinking of the last time it occurred. I decided to offer it here for those looking for the closing of the circle. Available, yet slightly outside. Peace: was written a little later, for the War and Remembrance challenge, and had a limit of 500 words (it is revised and very slightly expanded here.) I could not shake the feeling that it was part of the Anduin cycle. Its sense that the brothers will always remain connected restored for me some of the comfort of the original ending.
