Boromir believed that his brother understood his mind in this, though they never spoke of it, for Faramir understood him in all things. Faramir had some resource, too, some greatness of heart that he did not, that kept his brother in hope when Boromir could find none. Perhaps hope came more easily to a second son, though Faramir's love of Gondor was no less. But whatever their father might wish, and he wished always to set them one against the other, Faramir would know too well that in taking this desperate journey upon himself, Boromir spared no weakness but his own.
