This was a thoroughly enjoyable tale! As I mentioned in my other review I really like your Amrothros and so this was a fun read for me. I can just picture him sitting on the ground refusing to do the sword work - that's a great image! I also like the idea of him and Andrahar learning together, there couldn't be two more opposite people and yet doing that together just makes sense. Andrahar will do anything to make himself a better warrior and Amrothros is doing it to learn something and for self-defense... it just works somehow. The part in Dale makes me anxious to read that part of Passages (if that story goes that far!).

Amrothos is stealthily deadly - that seems very apt! I liked the way this showed Andra's concern for Amrothos as being behind his determination that Amrothos learn some kind of fighting, and also Imrahil's determination not to be Denethor. I also found seeing Andra's delineation of people into groups interesting. For some reason it reminded me strongly of Halaran's teachings about people being wolves, hounds and harts (I think those were the animals used anyway), which Brand has now picked up. As always, you wrote it, so I love it :)

Excellent! Unarmed combat has its place, and it is good that Amrothos had some training in what he chose to use that he not be vulnerable and that he had the chance to protect those he was with!

Must have missed this when you first posted it. I love the way Imrahil, Andrahar and Amroth arrived at the compromise about Amroth's weapons training. This fits Amroth so well and Imrahil is smart enough to not force his youngest into a role that doesn't fit him, but still firm enough to get him a weapon education that is necessary in the times they are living in.
