This was a total joy to read. As always, not a single note rings wrong. Andrahar owed these apologies and, of course, he realized it. But it is important for Imrahil to return and confront both his best friend, as well as Heth down the line. I can only speak for myself, but I am totally thrilled with this.

Wonderful story and it perfectly fit the prompts. I've been re-reading a bunch of your stories and so it was nice to have this new one to add into the whole series. Thanks so much!

Marvellous! The subject matter is serious, but the characterisation and dialogue is so deft that the whole has this great lightness and warmth. Wonderful, Isabeau. (And three prompts in one!)

Great mixture of serious and light-heartedness in this - not just that there are both elements, but they work well together as the interview between Andrahar and Imrahil progresses especially. The first two sections are a little more uniform in tone, but I did like how the opening of Andrahar's section is an amusing recap of his lack of confessional-narrative skills that then settles firmly into an unhappily dutiful letter, while Imrahil's section is light-hearted/joyful throughout until the final few exchanges with Elphir, which end more subdued and foreboding. Nice symmetry!
And although it does mark a serious moment, the brief mention of the three letters that brought Imrahil home, too, was brilliant - I particularly liked Imrahil's summary of the important bits of Rothos's letter. The juxtaposition of the three, some of them remembered precisely apparently, Andrahar's recast to fit Imrahil's reading of the essential point, is funny, but that makes Rothos's demand by the end hit that much harder.
And of course, the ending with the shirts makes a great call-back, with Andrahar's perpetual disinterest in fashion making for a great, serio-comic punchline.

I can't believe I didn't review this before! Sorry!
What a great story, deftly pieced together of responses to prompts!
I really enjoyed Andrahar's difficult letter, Imrahil's recounting and summarization of the important bits of the three letters, Imrahil's homecoming, and the conversation with Andrahar, where Andrahar was much more strained than Imrahil, but was stopped by Imrahil from the "head-chopping business" anyway. These are two men who know each other so well, and who love and respect each other to the extent that Imrahil could be as forgiving of Andrahar as A. would have been had the tables been turned.
What a treat! And I look forward to this year's B2MeM prompts, to see what comes of them.
- Barbara, as strained as Andrahar when it comes to writing reviews....
