That was very beautiful and very sweet and very sad. I like your thoughts on the possibility of Elrond being able to change his mind and choose mortality for the sake of love in spite of the first choice he made before.

Beautiful. It made me sad, remembering my Grandfather's helpless state after his stroke and the wound to his dignity it brought. Moreso than the damage to his body.
It is also a reminder of the pain of being immortal in a world where mortals may become dear to you.
Some people, when they are gone, leave a hole in your spirit forever.

I was on my way to another story (essay) of yours when this jumped up and caught my eye.
Beautiful, absolutely beautiful, and well done depiction of the Gift of Men and the dignity of death, even as the body fails. Elrond was magnificent. I liked your (re)interpretation of Tolkien's thoughts, too.
