I found this story intriguing. A lot of inherent tension between these two characters, and much for them to talk about and to mull over. You raise interesting practical questions of ruling.
Despite being Isildur's heir, when Aragorn approaches Minas Tirith after the battle at the Morannon, it's as much for what he's done (saving the city with the Dead at the Battle of Pelennor Fields, prevailing at the Battle of the Black Gates, wielder of Anduril, healer) as for his lineage. If he had to depend on his lineage alone, I'm not sure that he would have been accepted as king at all.
Thank you for this fic!

It was a very powerful when Arwen unveiled the banner for Boromir. I was doubting she would do it, fearing she would offend him or antagonise him, but in the end, it was the right thing to do.
I think this sign of her own certainty of Aragorn's claim and her explanation helped a little to, if not alleviate his unsettledness, at least to clear a path through a muddle of confused feelings and preconceived notions so he could analyse it with more calm and reason.
I liked how you tied in "darkness" with the black in Elendil's banner - I have often thought it an unusual choice of colour by Tolkien for the "good" Kings of Men, and you have played very well with this fact.
Also an unusual twist was that Boromir would sooner acknowledge Arwen as Queen than Aragorn as King. It showed that he recognised her as the strong character she is, that she is more than a "trophy bride", that she, too, has a part to play in making the Return of the King possible.

What a powerful piece. I've often wondered how these two had met and what they would say to each other given the chance. A truly wonderful scenario.
