Dear Rob,
I did a marathon reading session last night of this story. Enjoyable! I like the occasional "The Hobbit"-esque stylistic insert ("The Witch-king - for it was he", for example), and the dragon is well-described : nice to see one of the cold-drakes get a fictional mention.
The move to Forochel did seem a bit abrupt. I know that Arvedui does end up there, and making that a tactical decision was an interesting possibility, though I do have to wonder whether they'd really choose some place that out of the way, unless they got forced there on their way somewhere else (maybe by a cold drake)? But in any case, the major thing for me was that it just seemed a tad quick - it must have been quite the journey to get there, and we'd been so close to the characters previously that this sudden gap in their lives of however many weeks and months it would've taken them to get up to the tundra environment stand out.
The shipwreck, though, was well done, in a sort of blackly comedic way. Linwe got his comeuppance for pride and untoward arrogance toward the Forodrim.
I await the battle with the Witch-king and EƤrnur, as well as this mysterious plan to defeat Carakel. Nice job filling out an underwritten portion of the canon!
