This is lovely! I really enjoyed the little glimpses you painted of the hope the Rangers clung to over the long years as they waited for their king to return. I always thought it must have been difficult for them when he did actually return that he took the throne in Gondor and it wasn't until years later that the Northern Kingdom was restored. Anyway, nicely done - as usual! :)

A fascinating look! I had not considered how disorienting it must have been to suddenly have the possibility of rebuilding for the future, rather than trying desperately to simply hold out against evil for endless generations. I like all the details about how the Rangers spent their time....
Nicely done!

This story made me cry. Particularly the way it is told - like a dream, indeed.
Often, in a story which features such snapshots, there lies a danger of it looking scattershot and chopped, the emotion leached in the desire to get on to the next moment. But this story flows very lovely and evocatively.
Full of longing, and perseverance, and duty, and hope, and good spirits even in the face of derision, obscurity and what often must have seemed futile. And somehow peaceful, especially with the segue towards the end which is so full of quiet contentment.
I like the brief picture of Aragorn as fully one of their own, comrade even as he is something special: the double meaning of him dreaming 1) like they do; but also 2) an allusion to his ability of foresight.

Your depictions of the Rangers are always so vivid, veering close to poesy. I love Aragorn's last remark off-camera as it were-succinct, to the point and totally in character.
