Very nice, Dwim! I liked Halbarad's concern, his defiant questioning of Gandalf, and Gandalf's wise and honest reply. The characters were all wonderful, but I especially loved how you managed to convey Gandalf's love, respect and concern for the "regular folk" as Butterbur puts it - big and small.
"Let them see him through this thing that has come to him, and you will find, unless I am much mistaken, that what you need is not the Ranger, but the man he will become."
Oh, yes. I could definitely see the turmoil among the Rangers that you described, but that the wisest among them would eventually realize this.
Just curious: Do you see Aragorn recognizing on his own that he needs to visit Rohan, Gondor and further points south; or that he was significantly influenced by Gandalf to some degree, whether in idea, timing or purpose?

How wonderful to see this caring as well as enterprising Halbarad insisting on KNOWING. Love it, Dwimordene.
