I´d say that the Maia is Uinen.
A good drabble, this one. It focuses on Númenor, which interests me a great deal, and on its downfall, which interests me even further. Now, I cannot help but wonder about Uinen´s role in the whole story - if she ever talked to the Númenoreans, or just helped her from afar, and if there was a confrontation between her and Sauron.

This is excellent! A very nice contrast between the valor of the Edain in their early years, to their downfall - and why. (But memories, like their lives, proved too short.)
My interpretation, FWIW, is that the narrator is Eonwe; to call him mentor is a wonderful touch, as I'd not thought of him that way from the single line in the Silm, but it is obvious in retrospect. And then the terrible contrast to Sauron's teachings, and Eonwe's despair and certainty of the Numenorean's path... And he will watch it happen again with Elendil's lines, and on down through history. Very well done drabble.

I'm not too positive who the Maia is who is speaking, but certainly appreciate the other is Sauron, brought to Numenor from Middle Earth.
Well conveyed.
