It's been a while since I've read this wonderful little story. Revisiting it makes me all the sadder when I consider how things end up between Denethor and Finduilas (in the Unabeauverse, anyway - and even just in how brittle Denethor is in RotK). I love that the story is told from the PoV of the boat. I love how playful Finduilas is about tormenting Denethor. She is so much her own woman in this story, and her love of the sea obvious. (I'm guessing she knew that he was getting ready to ask her to marry him, and was getting back at him for spending so little time with her. "Fit in a hour," indeed!)
Loved also how Denethor actually asked her and her calm response. Oh - and the final quip about Elendil, of course. Your usual perfect prose, Altariel!
